Centre for Critical Thinking and Resourceful Research for Africa (CECTRRA)- Our Activities

 

     
       

Our Activities

1. To provide a resource base for African intellectuals.
2. To carry and disseminate research in different areas of humanities such as African Philosophy,Thought and Culture,Development studies, Ethics, Corruption/Integrity Studies etc.
3. To publish journals locally.
4. To publish an international journal in three official International languages of Africa namely English, French and Portuguese.
5.To cause for influential knowledge  paradigm as will minimize the negative effects of the multi-lingual nature of African society.
6. To liaise with relevant research centres such in organizing seminars in important areas and with outstanding
thinkers from Africa.
7. To organize an international conference bi-annually.
8. To organize a local conference annually in a selected part of Nigeria.
9. To provide consultancy services in the areas of research, training and improved service delivery.

CECTRRA functions through an Inner-Think Tank (made of committed scholars from different aspects of humanities) that studies, analyses and approves all proposed projects.
The recommended projects are to be subjected to more approval through consultation with the Advisory Board.

CECTRRA Annual Seminar on Thinking:
This seminar is designed to promote the art of thinking by looking at different aspects of thinking – Creative, Conceptual, Analytical, Generative, Constructive, Critical, etc.
The aim is to locate aspects of these that are underemphasised in the African context, how they can be supplied and the processes, measures and values that would lead to proper development of African society in this direction.

PAST ACTIVITIES OF CECTRRA

1. The Inaugural lecture of CECTRRA was delivered Dr. Olof Petterson, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, Department of Philosophy University of Uppsala, Uppsala-Sweden/Researcher at the University of Norway. It was co-organised by CECTRRA and the University of Abuja.
The lecture was delivered on February 23, 2016 at the ETF Building, University of Abuja, Nigeria. The title of the lecture is “The Language of Illusory Wisdom: Plato and Self-Understanding in an African context”.

2.  The Second CECTRRA lecture was delivered by Professor Peter S. Fosl, Chair of Philosophy& Chair Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), Transylvania University Louisville, KY 40205 U.S.A. The lecture was delivered on July 6,2016 at Faculty of Arts Lecture Theatre, Main Campus, UNIABUJA and was co-organised by CECTRRA and the Faculty of Arts, University of Abuja The title of the lecture is “Critical Thinking and Scepticism Across the Arts and Humanities: Some Recommendations for the African Academy.

3. 2016 Seminar on Critical Thinking Convened by the Centre for Critical Thinking and Resourceful Research in Africa (CECTRRA), Abuja held at Pleasure Park Garden, Wuse, Abuja with Professor Peter Fosl of Transylvania University, USA as lead speaker, held on July 10, 2016.

4. Seminar on Logic and Critical Thinking Convened by the Centre for Critical Thinking and Resourceful Research in Africa (CECTRRA), Abuja held at Atlas Hotel Gwagwalada on March 10, 2018.
